CLASSICAL EDUCATION is a time-tested, three-stage approach to learning that mirrors the natural development of a child’s mind and curiosity.

  • The Grammar Stage (K-4th Grade) is focused on knowledge. In these years, students learn the basic factual content - the "grammar" - of any given subject. Using chants, songs, and rhythmic verse, students memorize hundreds of facts - everything from parts of speech to math facts to bones of the body.

  • The Logic Stage (5th-8th Grade) is focused on understanding. Early-adolescent children love to question, contradict and argue. Building on these abilities, the Logic Stage fosters inquiry, discussion, and debate, with an emphasis on reason and analysis.

  • The Rhetoric Stage (9th-12th Grade) is focused on wisdom. In these years, students learn to reason critically and express themselves persuasively in speech and in writing. Students in the Rhetoric Stage at TCA will be challenged toward leadership in every area of life as they learn to express themselves clearly and convincingly.
